Austin’s Ume put on an electric show at the Soda Bar on Wednesday.
The band, made up of wife-and-husband duo Lauren and Eric Larson and badass drummer Rachel Fuhrer, performed a setlist of material from new album Monuments, as well as old favorites from their 2011 breakout album, Phantoms.
Monuments, released March 4, has a very heavy feel, and the lightning-emblazoned album cover suggests classic Metallica. The songs live up to the implications. Live, Lauren Larson is a very entertaining lead singer, with lots of blonde headbanging, writhing, and ace guitar work.
Los Angeles’ White Murder and San Diego’s Schizophonics opened. Both bands were well-suited to support Ume, with each putting on an energetic, skilled set that kept the audience energized.
